Custom @font-face declarations without font-display:swap
font-display is a setting on custom web fonts that controls what happens while the font file is still loading. Without it set to swap, text using that font can stay completely invisible until the file finishes downloading, an effect sometimes called FOIT, Flash of Invisible Text. This check found custom @font-face declarations on this site without font-display: swap.
Why this matters
Invisible text while a font loads can make a page feel slower than it is, even though nothing is technically broken; the delay depends on the visitor's connection and the font size. font-display: swap has been a standard recommendation for years and is still commonly missing on older codebases.
How to fix it
Your developer should add font-display: swap; to every @font-face declaration in the site's CSS. This shows the fallback system font immediately and swaps to the custom font once it is ready, so text is never invisible. This is a quick, low-risk change, about fifteen minutes.
